If I am not pleased with my realtor, how do I move on to another?

Ask Pros Question of the Week

If I am not pleased with my realtor, how do I move on to another?

Answer 1: "If you are not pleased with your Realtor you can not switch to another one. You signed a contract and therefore you are required to hold up your end of the deal which is renumeration to the Agent (and let's be honest, you don't want to pay two agents). My suggestion - speak to your agent about why you are unhappy with their service and give them suggestions as to what they can do to make you happy. Your only other options are to allow the contract to expire or to request a release from your contract. You do have the right to request a release, HOWEVER the brokerage you are dealing with does have the right to refuse to grant you that release. I will tell you however, your best option is to speak to your agent and try to work together."

Answer 2: "I think it's important to understand your situation a bit more. The above posts assume you've signed a contract with a Realtor. Are you a buyer or a seller?

If you are a buyer working with a Realtor have you singed a buyer representation agreement? If not then you are free to "break up" with your Realtor and move on. However, if you have signed a buyer representation agreement you are bound by the terms in that agreement until expiry (and sometimes beyond).

If you have listed your home with a Realtor and are unhappy, the above posts do a good job of explaining what to do. Best way to handle this is to speak with your Realtor and try and work it out. IF that is not possible make an appointment with the Brokerage's Broker of Record or Manager. They will be able to properly handle the situation for you."
